Dissemination of research to peers, policy-makers, and stakeholders is critical to have an impact.
While academic careers are still marked by grant and publication success, this limited focus severely hinders implementation, adoption, and scientific progress. Working with PARC and the MLSFH team, I ensure that research findings reach the audiences and stakeholders where they can make a difference, domestically and abroad.
The PARC Aging Retreat, an annual dissemination event that we initiated the Population Aging Research Center, brings together PARC Associates across campus for a day of research highlights and discussions with prominent external keynote speakers.
Recent/forthcoming PARC Aging Retreats:
Forthcoming: Limits of Chronological Age, featuring Jay Olshansky (U Illinois Chicago) & Joseph Baur (Penn Medicine)
2024: Healthy Aging for All - Illusion or Promising Future?, featuring Jennifer Dowd (Oxford U) & Michal Kobor (U British Columbia)
2023: Aging and the New American Demography, featuring Julie Zissimopoulos (USC) & Ronald Lee (UC Berkeley)
The monthly PARC Aging Chats, organized by us at the Population Aging Research Center, provide a novel environment that features lively cross-disciplinary debates on open research questions and the policy implications of our research.
Recent/forthcoming PARC Aging Retreats:
Promise (or Lack Thereof) of Biosocial Studies of Aging and ADRD: Jason Fletcher (U Wisconsin-Madison) & Corey McMillan (Penn)
Global Roadmap for Healthy Longevity: Lisa Berkman (Harvard) & Victor Mwapasa (Kamuzu University of Health Sciences)
Global Cognition and ADRD Research: Lindsay Kobayashi (U Michigan)
Frontiers in ADRD Research: Yaakov Stern (Columbia) & Jason Karlawish (Penn)
Current Pitfalls and Future Promise of Long-term Services and Support: Chanee Fabius (Johns Hopkins) & Mary Ersek (Penn)

I regularly co-organize workshops and other scientific events in connection with PARC, the MLSFH and other partners. Recent example includes:

Co-Organizer, Frontiers of Longitudinal Research in Malawi: Informing Health, College of Medicine, University of Malawi (2016)
